Sad news... long time fruit jar collector Anne Szopa has passed after a long illness. Our hearts go out to Anne's devoted partner Sue, and to her sister Mary Harper, and to all of Anne's family and friends.
A celebration of Anne’s life will be held Sunday, December 1, at the Hampton Inn, 4220 Bethel, Muncie, IN, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Obituary:
She attended Burris School and the College of Mount St. Joseph. In 1986 she earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from Ball State University. She became a devoted teacher and academic, holding positions first at Ball State and later at Indiana University East in Richmond. While at Ball State, she pioneered the addition of women’s studies to Ball State’s curriculum.
At IU East she attained full tenure and rose to become Chair of the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Co-coordinator of the Women and Gender Studies Program. She retired in 2005 due to illness.
Anne was an avid collector of fruit jars, glass and antiques. She was a member of Jelly Jammers, a club devoted to preserving the history of glass jelly jars. She was also Treasurer of the Midwest Antique Fruit Jar & Bottle Club for many years. She loved flower gardening and collecting minerals and anything sparkly.
She is survived by her partner Sue Wilson, her sons Christopher and Vincent, her brother John Pieroni and his wife Sue Anne, her sister Rita Pieroni DeBoth and husband Tim, her sister Mary Pieroni Harper, and four nieces and nephews.
