Beloved Mason Educator Passes Away:

School Board Member Odell's Funeral to be Held 11.1.11

Mason City Schools' board member John Odell died on October 27 after a hard-fought battle with an aggressive form of lung cancer.

A beloved educator, Odell had an extensive career as an innovative Mason teacher and curriculum leader from 1985 until he retired in 2006. He ran for and won a seat on the Mason City Schools' Board of Education in November 2009, and brought the same passion for learning to the school board as he did in the classroom. Odell viewed his time serving the citizens of Mason City Schools as an important public service, and was diligent in reminding everyone that even in tough times we must always keep children first.

Odell will be remembered for his love and commitment to hands-on, innovative learning, his creative problem-solving skills, and dry wit.

Our hearts are with his wife, Susan, and his children David Odell, Katie Odell, Krystina Baker Lamb (Robert), Danielle Baker, and Paul Baker.

Arrangements Memorial Service at Christ's Church at Mason on Tuesday, November 1, 2011. 5165 Western Row Road, Mason, Ohio 45040 Receiving at 5:00 p.m. Service at 6:00p.m.
