Rummaging for #Vintage Bottles? Try Rumma.ge - New eBay Search Site

RUMMA.GE IMAGE SEARCH
You're always on the hunt for treasure, right?

Odds are, you do alot of searching on eBay. Time consuming tedious searches. Constantly clicking 'next page'. Yawn.

If only it were simpler, and prettier, and more fun. That's where this new site, RUMMA.GE, comes in. And yes, it's rumma-dot-ge, not dot-com.

The true beauty of the site is their uber-search-engine, that returns your searches in an enhanced photo gallery layout that looks alot like Pinterest, with huge thumbnail images.

TO INFINITY!

Like Pinterest, Rumma.ge has Infinite Scrolling, which means the images just keep loading as you scroll down. It's an endless page, until there are no more results.

See the screen shot image above for an idea of how it looks. That's a search for "Bitters bottle", and it is much longer than that, with big yummy photos.

PopUp Info Without Leaving Rummage

When on rumma.ge, you can mouse over the image to see the title. Then if you're interested, click the image to pop up the details, and then you can click through to eBay if you're so inclined. EBay will open in a new window so you don't lose your place in your rummage search.

Get Pinned! Save the Data!

You can PIN IT from here too, to your Pinterest folders, which is a great way to keep a record. Pinterest saves the photos so they'll still be there when they're gone from eBay. You can go edit your pin later with the completed price, and compile your own customized price guide with photos of every item. (That works for pins from any site, not just ebay. And Pinterest is FREE. Go get pinning!)

SEARCH SELLERS, TOO

You can search by keyword(s), of course, with some customization.

You can even browse by category, which is impossible anymore on eBay.

Here's a screen shot for the word BOTTLE. As you can see, you can now scroll through all 464,000+ results. Yes, it actually will show you all those items. Now that's a looooong scroll! Don't worry, it loads them in small batches as you scroll down, and just takes a second. You will love it.

But looking at half a million listings would not be very efficient, would it. How about the nifty category menu above the thumbnails? Now that's efficient. You can choose to browse all titles with the word 'bottle' in a particular category. The results are just better than eBay's. Bigger images, infinite scrolling, easier sorting.

But wait, there's more!

You can search by seller, too. Just fill in any sellers ebay name in this URL -- http://rumma.ge/sellers/ebay-name-here

For example, here's how Greg Spurgeon's fruit jar listings look on Rumma.ge -- http://rumma.ge/sellers/hoosierjar

The beauty part of this, if you are a seller, is you can share the link with your customers, and they can see your merchandise in this gallery type display. [Note: The Rummage folks have also created a special site for sellers called Lookza.com. Currently in private beta testing, so more on that later.]

Some Limitations

Rumma.ge is JUST FOR EBAY CURRENT LISTING SEARCHES.

So it's for shopping. And for researching what you have, but not for getting completed prices.

The best places for completed prices are:
  • Collectors Weekly, although they just have their own set categories, no custom keyword/seller search. The results are also in a great thumbnail image gallery format. The info is FREE. They'll even send you a weekly newsletter with the week's completed prices. You definitely need to check this site out NOW if you haven't yet. Tons of research resources and articles, too.
  • Worthpoint, for specific items. Their price guide is deep and growing, but not free. You can search the site for free, and see what items sold, but you need to subscribe to see the prices. Well worth your checking the site out, though. They also have articles and othe research resources.
Now go have fun rummaging around Rumma.ge!
